Chemical leak at a W.Va. plant kills 2 people, sends 30 more to hospitals, officials say

Friday, April 24, 2026-A deadly chemical leak at an industrial facility in West Virginia has left two people dead and at least 30 others hospitalized, triggering a major emergency response and raising fresh concerns about industrial safety.

The incident occurred during routine operations when a hazardous gas was suddenly released, overwhelming workers and prompting immediate evacuations at the site.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene as workers reported breathing difficulties and exposure symptoms. Several victims were treated for respiratory distress and chemical inhalation, while nearby areas were placed under precautionary advisories to limit exposure.

Authorities confirmed that the situation was contained, but not before dozens were affected and operations at the plant were halted.

Investigations are now underway to determine the exact cause of the leak, including whether safety protocols were followed and if equipment failure played a role.

Officials say the findings will be critical in preventing similar incidents in the future, as scrutiny intensifies over industrial risk management and worker safety standards.
