At least nine people killed in explosion at Pakistan market

Tuesday, May 12, 2026-At least nine people have been killed after a powerful explosion ripped through a busy market area in northwestern Pakistan, triggering panic and sending shoppers and traders scrambling for safety.

Authorities say the blast struck the Sarai Naurang market in Lakki Marwat district, a crowded commercial hub where civilians and security personnel were among those caught in the explosion.

Officials confirmed that the device was reportedly planted on or near a motorcycle and detonated during peak trading activity, causing widespread destruction and injuring more than 20 others, some critically.

Emergency responders rushed victims to nearby hospitals as security forces sealed off the area and began collecting evidence. No group has claimed responsibility so far, but investigations are underway amid heightened security concerns in the region.

The attack adds to a growing pattern of violence in northwestern Pakistan, where markets, roads, and public gatherings have increasingly been targeted. The incident has intensified pressure on authorities to strengthen security operations and prevent further civilian casualties.

With investigations still ongoing and the death toll potentially rising, the focus remains on accountability, rapid response, and restoring stability in an area already strained by repeated security threats.
