Iran's Supreme Leader MOJTABA KHAMENEI says new management of Strait of Hormuz 'will bring calm'

Saturday, May 2, 2026-Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has stated that a “new management” approach to the Strait of Hormuz would bring calm, stability, and economic benefits to the region.

In a written message released on April 30, 2026, he said Tehran is entering a new phase of regional control following the ongoing Iran–U.S.–Israel conflict, and that Iran intends to “secure the Gulf” while addressing what it calls foreign interference in the vital waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, has become a major flashpoint in the conflict. According to his statement, Iran’s approach would involve reorganizing how the passage is managed in order to reduce tensions and restore predictable maritime traffic.

Supporters frame this as a stabilizing move, while critics see it as an attempt to increase Iranian leverage over global energy flows.

The announcement comes at a time of heightened global concern over energy security, with shipping disruptions already affecting oil markets and raising prices.

As diplomatic efforts remain stalled, the message signals Iran’s intent to assert stronger regional influence while continuing to link maritime security to broader geopolitical negotiations.
