Friday, May 29, 2026-A man has been charged in the United Kingdom with assisting a foreign intelligence service in a case that counter-terrorism police say is linked to Iran.
Authorities allege the suspect was involved in activities aimed at targeting a UK-based journalist, with the investigation carried out under the National Security Act as part of a wider probe into foreign intelligence operations on British soil.
Court reporting indicates the accused, a 46-year-old Greek national, is alleged to have conducted surveillance on a journalist working for Iran International, including photographing locations and installing covert recording equipment during visits to the UK.
Prosecutors say the surveillance was coordinated and funded from abroad, and carried out across multiple trips earlier this year.
The case comes amid growing concern in the UK over alleged foreign intelligence activity targeting journalists and dissident-linked media organizations. Counter-terrorism officials say there is no wider threat to the public, but emphasize that investigations into state-linked surveillance networks remain active as authorities seek to disrupt hostile intelligence operations.
