US Embassy in Iraq urges Americans to leave country amid regional tensions

Thursday, June 11, 2026- The US Embassy in Iraq has issued a security advisory urging American citizens to depart Iraq as soon as possible, citing heightened regional tensions and an increased risk environment across the country.

The warning reflects growing concerns over potential spillover from broader Middle East instability and the possibility of sudden security escalations.

Officials advised U.S. nationals to avoid non-essential travel within Iraq and to make use of available commercial flights while they remain operational.

The embassy emphasized that security conditions can change rapidly, and that limited capacity for emergency assistance makes departure the safest option for civilians at this time.

The advisory underscores rising geopolitical strain across the region, where shifting alliances and ongoing conflicts have increased uncertainty for foreign nationals and diplomatic missions.

Authorities continue to monitor developments closely, while urging citizens to remain alert, follow official guidance, and prioritize personal safety decisions.
