Friday, September 11, 2026 - A Florida court has dismissed charges against rapper Kodak Black stemming from allegations that he fled from and resisted police officers during a traffic stop.
A Broward County judge granted Kodak’s motion to dismiss the
case on Tuesday, September 8, finding that prosecutors had produced no evidence
supporting the allegation that the rapper attempted to elude police officers.
The ruling resulted in all charges connected to the case
being dismissed and the matter being closed. Kodak’s attorney, Bradford Cohen,
welcomed the decision, saying the defence had used video evidence and a
deputy’s deposition to challenge the allegations.
“We are glad the court signed the order granting the motion
to dismiss. This case was not a fleeing and alluding and we demonstrated that
fact through the video and deposition of the deputy,” Cohen said. Kodak had
surrendered himself to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in May after
authorities issued an arrest warrant connected to an incident in February.
According to the warrant, authorities alleged that Kodak
“did have knowledge that he had been ordered to stop” by police but “proceeded
to flee from deputies.” At the time of his surrender, Cohen criticised the case
and alleged that his client was being repeatedly targeted by law enforcement.
“It’s not unexpected, as this is usually the procedure we go
through where there is an unfounded weak arrest and then followed up by yet
another arrest for cases that allegedly take 5 or 6 months to investigate. At
this point I think everyone agrees that Kodak is consistently being targeted,”
Cohen said.
Cohen is separately seeking the dismissal of drug charges
against Kodak in Orlando, Florida. Those charges stem from another arrest in
which police alleged that Kodak was found in possession of 25 grams of MDMA, a
synthetic drug with stimulant and psychedelic effects.
