Friday, September 24, 2026 - Pakistan has carried out precision air and drone strikes against 10 locations in Afghanistan, saying the sites were used to launch and store drones involved in attempted attacks against Pakistan.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the strikes were a response to a recent drone intrusion and described them as limited to identified military objectives. Afghanistan’s Taliban government said the attacks killed at least four civilians.
The Taliban has condemned the strikes as aggression and vowed an “appropriate response.” Taliban officials deny that their government launched drones against Pakistan, while Islamabad accuses Kabul of allowing armed groups to operate from Afghan territory and carry out attacks across the border.
The latest escalation follows another round of Pakistani strikes earlier this week that Afghanistan and the United Nations said killed civilians.
Tensions are now rising rapidly along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, with reports of further exchanges of fire between the two sides.
The escalation threatens diplomatic efforts involving China, Türkiye, Qatar and Saudi Arabia aimed at preventing a wider conflict. Both governments are facing pressure to contain the violence as concerns grow over further cross-border attacks and civilian casualties.
