BILLY CORGAN defends MARILYN MANSON: 'I didn't think he was guilty'

Sunday, October 25, 2026 - Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is standing by Marilyn Manson amid renewed debate over the allegations of sexual abuse and domestic violence against the controversial rock star.

Speaking on The New York Times’ Popcast podcast, Corgan said he personally did not believe Manson was guilty of the accusations, citing his private knowledge of the situation and the authorities’ decision not to pursue criminal charges in 2025. His comments are reigniting discussion across the music industry about friendship, accountability and the responsibility of public figures.

Corgan emphasized that loyalty does not mean ignoring serious allegations, explaining that he believes friends should be supported while remaining open to criticism. He also defended his decision to maintain a relationship with Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, despite public pressure.

The two musicians have known each other for nearly 30 years, and Corgan described their connection as deeply personal. Manson has denied the allegations against him, while several women have come forward with claims of abuse.

The controversy remains far from settled. Although prosecutors declined to file criminal charges against Manson in Los Angeles in January 2025, they cited the statute of limitations and insufficient evidence to prove sexual assault charges beyond a reasonable doubt. Separately, a civil lawsuit brought by former assistant Ashley Walters was revived in 2026.

Corgan’s latest remarks are likely to intensify public debate as fans weigh personal loyalty against accountability. For the music industry, the spotlight is once again on how artists respond when serious allegations challenge longstanding relationships.
