Five killed in Gaza

Sunday, October 4, 2026 - At least five Palestinians were killed in an overnight Israeli airstrike on an apartment building in Gaza City, according to Al-Shifa Hospital and Gaza civil defence officials.

Four of those killed were women, including a Christian mother, Maisa Abu Dawoud, and her daughter Mary, according to medics and church officials. The strike destroyed the building and triggered a fire, while people were reportedly still missing beneath the rubble.

The Israeli military later said it had carried out an overnight strike on an apartment in Gaza in an attempt to kill Ali al-Amoudi, described by the military as a senior Hamas figure.

It was not immediately clear whether that operation was the same strike that killed the five Palestinians, and the military said the results were under review.

The deaths come as violence continues despite the ceasefire, keeping pressure on efforts to protect civilians and prevent further escalation.

The latest strike is likely to draw renewed international attention, particularly because women and members of Gaza's small Christian community were among those killed. With casualties continuing to be reported, the humanitarian situation remains an urgent concern.
