Wednesday, May 6, 2026- Counter-terrorism police are leading an urgent investigation after a fire broke out at a former synagogue in east London, with authorities treating the incident as a suspected arson attack. 

Early findings indicate the blaze was deliberately set outside the building’s gates, causing minor damage but raising serious security concerns due to the site’s religious history. The response reflects growing alarm over a pattern of targeted incidents affecting Jewish sites across the UK.

Investigators from Counter Terrorism Policing London confirmed that CCTV footage shows the fire was started intentionally in the early hours of the morning, prompting the case to be escalated beyond standard criminal inquiry.
