Police sue TRUMP as Jan. 6 rioters gloat over 'weaponization' fund

Thursday, May 21, 2026-A group of police officers injured during the January 6 Capitol attack has filed a new lawsuit against President Donald Trump, accusing him of helping fuel the violence that left officers physically and emotionally scarred.

The legal action comes as some convicted January 6 rioters publicly celebrate a newly proposed “weaponization” compensation fund backed by Trump allies, claiming they were unfairly targeted by the justice system. The contrast has reignited national outrage and reopened deep political divisions surrounding the Capitol attack and its aftermath.

The lawsuit argues that Trump’s repeated false claims about election fraud directly contributed to the violence officers faced while defending Congress. Several officers involved in the case say they continue to suffer from long-term trauma, injuries, and career damage years after the attack.

At the same time, supporters of the proposed fund are calling January 6 defendants “political prisoners” and demanding financial restitution for prosecutions they describe as politically motivated. Critics warn that rewarding individuals connected to the Capitol riot risks normalizing political violence and undermining trust in law enforcement institutions.

The political impact could be massive as the country moves deeper into another heated election cycle. January 6 remains one of the most emotionally charged events in modern American politics, and both parties continue using it to energize supporters.

Democrats are expected to use the lawsuit to highlight concerns about democracy and accountability, while Trump allies will likely frame the legal battles as part of a broader campaign against conservatives. With court cases, investigations, and public anger still active years later, the January 6 story is proving far from over — and its influence on the future of American politics continues to grow.
