Wednesday, August 19, 2026 - Nick Jonas has revealed how an unprepared audition cost him the chance to play Kristoff in Disney’s 2013 hit Frozen.
Speaking on the Hey Jonas! podcast with brothers Joe and Kevin, Jonas said he arrived for the audition without knowing he would be expected to sing or bring sheet music.
When asked what he planned to perform, he had no answer and eventually chose a musical-theater song on the spot. He later admitted: “I bombed the audition. It was terrible.”
The awkward confession came as Jonas was joined by Frozen stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad.
Bell jokingly told him that his poor audition was probably why he did not get the role, while Gad teased that Jonas might have had better chemistry with Bell than Jonathan Groff, who ultimately voiced Kristoff.
Jonas played along, saying he loves Groff but jokingly insisting that casting him might have been the better choice.
Despite missing out on one of Disney’s biggest franchises, Jonas said he eventually enjoyed watching Frozen and did not hold a grudge against the film.
The embarrassing audition now stands as a surprisingly relatable moment in the career of a star who went on to build a major career in both music and acting.
With Frozen 3 scheduled for November 2027 and a fourth film also in development, Jonas’s story offers a reminder that even major stars can have auditions that go completely wrong.
