5 killed, including child, in Houthi shelling in Yemen’s Taiz

Thursday, October 1, 2026 - Five people, including a 12-year-old boy, were killed and several others injured in separate attacks attributed to the Houthi group in Yemen’s southwestern Taiz province on Wednesday, according to Yemeni Legal Affairs Minister Ishraq al-Maqtari.

The minister said the child, identified as Youssef Abdul Warith Saif, was returning home from school when a mortar shell struck the Salah neighborhood of Taiz city.

A separate attack reportedly killed four people when a ballistic missile struck the densely populated city of Al-Turbah. The minister also reported that shelling in the Al-Ahyuq area of Al-Wazi’iyah district killed a woman and injured her child.

The Houthis had not immediately commented on the allegations, making the casualty reports subject to the available accounts.

The latest deaths come as fighting intensifies across several Yemeni front lines, including Taiz, Lahj, Marib, Al-Jawf and Al-Bayda.

UN officials have warned that civilians are increasingly bearing the impact of the renewed violence, with recent fighting producing civilian deaths, displacement and growing humanitarian needs.
