Israeli strike kills journalist after ongoing attacks blocked rescuers, Lebanon says

Friday, April 24, 2026-A Lebanese journalist has been killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon, with officials saying repeated attacks prevented rescuers from reaching her in time.

The journalist, identified as Amal Khalil, was critically injured after a strike hit the area where she was reporting, before further bombardments struck the building where she had taken shelter.

According to Lebanese authorities and witnesses, emergency teams attempting to reach the site were delayed or forced to withdraw due to continued strikes and security risks. Khalil remained trapped under rubble for hours, and by the time access was possible, she had died from her injuries.

The incident has intensified accusations that ongoing attacks are obstructing humanitarian access and putting both civilians and journalists at extreme risk.

The Israeli military has denied deliberately targeting journalists, stating that its operations are aimed at militant threats in the area. However, the killing has drawn strong condemnation from press freedom groups and international observers, who are calling for an independent investigation.

The episode adds to growing concerns about the safety of journalists in the conflict, as scrutiny mounts over potential violations of international law.
