Six killed in northern Germany shooting as police arrest suspected gunman



Monday, June 29, 2026- A deadly shooting at a youth welfare facility in Stade, northern Germany, has left six people dead and several others injured, sending shockwaves across the country. 

Authorities confirmed that five victims died at the scene while a sixth later succumbed to injuries in hospital. Police have arrested the suspected gunman and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. The victims were all employees of the facility or its affiliated services.

Investigators believe the shooting may have been linked to a child custody dispute involving the suspect, although the full motive remains under investigation. 

Two additional individuals have been detained as part of the inquiry, while officials stress there is no ongoing threat to the public. The attack triggered a major emergency response, with heavily armed police and forensic teams securing the scene for several hours.
